Charles Kitchener Stiff was born on 6th February 1917 (1st qtr 1917 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1522 son of James and Elizabeth STIFF(née ASTLE)

CWGC have his parents in Beyton but in the 1939 register Charles (farm worker) was at Cottage, East Barton with his widowed mother and sister Hilda. His father had died in 1936.

Charles was reported missing on 27th January 1942, no doubt when trying to break out from Batu Pahat. Later recorded as dying as a PoW on 5th March 1942
