The Bury Free Press of 9th April 1921 reported :- Thurlow Memorial Cross Unveiled-
On Sunday afternoon there was unveiled at Great Thurlow a war memorial in the form of an octagonal pillar surmounted by a cross, resting on a base of square design. It was designed by the Rev.W.A.Wickham of Ampton, and has been erected on a site that is really part of the grounds connected with the Village Reading Room. Standing as it does some feet higher than the adjoining roadway, and near the junction of four roads, the position is a most suitable one.
On Sunday afternoon there was a parade, under Capt.E.C.Frink of the ex Servicemen of the village, who then marched, headed by the Haverhill Salvation Army Band to the parish church. The service was conducted by the Rev.B.C.Fleming (vicar) assisted by the Revs, C.D.Rogers (Little Thurlow) and W.G. Hodegs (Haverhill).
Then came a procession to the memorial which was unveiled by Major P.Carew, Adjutant of the 5th Suffolks Territorials, who was thanked by Lt.F.Ryder......

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
