His mother died in Q1-1884 aged 21 and father then married Fanny BIGMORE.(Risbridge Q4-1886 4A:1055) (but in 1891 according to 1911 census) 1891 census...Aged 8, he was at Moon Hall Cottages, Bumpstead Road, Haverhill with his father Harry KIDDY [29] farm labourer born Helions Bumpstead; his stepmother Fanny [24] born Kedington; half brother Frederick [4 months] born Haverhill. 1901 census...Aged 18, a hair weaver, he was at 3 Bumpstead Road, Haverhill with his father; stepmother; half brothers Frederick and David [1] born Haverhill; half sister Maude [2] born Sturmer. 1911 census...Aged 28, single, a hair cloth weaver, he was at France Cottages, Sturmer with his father; stepmother; half brothers Frederick and David; half sisters Maud, Daisy [8] and May[4] both born in Sturmer. Charles enlisted in Haverhill in October 1914.
The 5th Suffolk were in Gaza, but as Charles died of his wounds at No. 66 Casualty Clearing Station it is not known exactly where or when he was wounded. |
