Harold George Pratt was born in Hawstead (3rd qtr 1892 Risbridge 4a:691) son of Frederick Charles and Jane PRATT (née CROSS)

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Hawstead Hall with his father Frederick C PRATT [56] farmer born Starston, Norfolk; his mother Jane [50] born Boxted; sisters Mabel O M [23] born Wickhambrook, Florence E [11] born Stradishall, Muriel R [6] born Stradishall; brother Cyril G [12] born Stradishall; grandmother Sarah Cross [81] born Glemsford.

1911 census...Aged 18, a draper's warehouseman , he was at 4-6 Cannon Street London EC. At Hawstead Hall were his parents; sister Ethelrine Daisy [31], Florence Evelyn [21] and Muriel Rosalie [16]; brother Frederick Claud [24]



He enlisted in St Paul's Churchyard, Middlesex on 25th August 1914, giving his age as 22 years, born in Hawstead, Suffolk, a draper, living at 359 Clapham Road, London. Next of kin, his father Frederick Charles Pratt of Hawstead Hall. He was 6 feet tall, weighing 168 lbs, chest 33.25 to 37.25 inches, hazel eyes, brown hair, Church of England.
He joined the Rifle Brigade at Winchester on 25th August, posted to 7th Battalion. Posted to BEF Depot 19th May 1915, and the 5th Battalion on 5th October 1915, finally the 7th Battalion on 8th March 1916. Wounded in left leg on 20 July 1915, he was back in UK from 30th July 1915 to 8th March 1916
Army Form5080 has living relatives at time of his death: Parents, brothers Frederick Charles[34], Cyril Guy [31], sisters Ethelrine Daisy[40] and Muriel Rosalie [25] living at Hawstead Hall; brother Herbert Harry [44] at 9 Cornhill, Bury St.Edmunds, Cecil Roy [39] at 48 Osborne Road, Palmers Green, sister Kate Olive May MARSH[47] at Fyletts Manor Hawstead, with sister Florence Evelyn [29], sister Winifred Violet ? [37] at 37 Kelvin Road, Highbury.

He was killed carrying rations up the the trenches in the line between the Menin Road and the Reutelbeck.





Harold Pratt is buried in Voormezeele Enclosures 1 and 2 (Belgium) I:L:11
