no overseas service, hence no medals
3rd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment
Died of Illness on 15th November 1918

William James Borley was born in Tostock (3rd qtr 1889 Stow 4a:720), son of Charles and Eliza BORLEY (née GAME)

1891 census...Aged 1, he was at Drinkstone Road, Beyton with his father Charles BORLEY [53] boot repairer born Tostock; his mother Eliza [33] born Stowmarket; sisters Kate [13], Julia [11], Maria [10] and Lily [8] all born in Beyton; brothers Hector [6] and John [4] both born in Beyton.

1901 census...Aged 11, he was at The Green, Beyton with his parents; brothers Hector (stockman) and John (bricklayer's labourer) and Claude [7] born Beyton; sister Annie M (Maria?) [20]

1911 census...Aged 21, a carter, he was at Bridge Yard, Beyton with his parents; sister Maria; brother Hector (carter) and niece Annie SEXTON [4] born Beyton. Annie was the daughter of his sister Julia, who, with husband William SEXTON and her other 5 children, was also living in Bridge Yard, Beyton.

He married Ella Priscilla GREEN in 1915. On the pension card his widow Ella [24-1-1894] was at The Wash, Hessett.

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. He died at Sheppey in Kent, from Influenza contracted whilst on active service.
Dying after the Armistice he would not appear in "Soldiers Died" and he has no medal index card. Since he was in the 3rd Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment, a Reserve training unit, it looks as if he never served overseas. The Battalion was at Scrapsgate, Sheppey from May 1918.

William Borley is buried in Hessett (St.Ethlebert) Churchyard South of church
