Hessett Memorial Cross


Inside the church is a glazed, hand written Roll of Honour detailing all who served in the Great War, identifying the fallen (all bar John Whiting).

Unveiled on 3rd October 1920 by Brig. Gen. A.L. Schreiber, CB, CMG, DSO, dedicated by Rev E.M.Bartlett, Rector of Hessett.
Re-dedicated on 8th November 2015 after renovations paid for by Friends of the Church in Hessett and other donors.

The monument is in the form of a Portland stone Celtic cross 3.3 m high and plinth on a rectangular 90 cm x 75 cm base.

The inscription, on just one face,reads
R I P
14 names showing year of death/forename/iniital/surname
on the plinth
IN PROUD AND AFFECTIONATE
REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN
OF HESSETT
WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY
IN THE GREAT WAR
