Charles Ashman was born 21st August 1893 in Chevington (4th qtr 1893 Thingoe 4a:717) son of Charles and Julia ASHMAN (née NUNN). Baptised in Chevington All Saints on 1st October 1893.

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at W Burrell's Farm, Fornham St Martin with his father Charles ASHMAN [36]stockman, born Horringer; his mother Julia [35] born Hargrave; brother Harry [14] farm labourer; sister Mary [12]. The children all born in Chevington.

1911 census...Aged 17, worker on farm, he was at Hall Farm Road, Fornham St Martin with his parents; brother Harry (gentleman's servant) and sister Julia [10] born Fornham St Martin. His mother had lost 1 of her 6 children.

On the pension card his mother was at Horringer, later at Ickworth Park.


He enlisted in Oxford.
Unable to find war diary for July/August 1917, but they were obviously in the Ypres salient.

and commemorated in Fornham St Martin
