Clement Beckford Bevan was born in Bury St.Edmunds(3rd qtr 1893 4a:761), son of Algernon Beckford and Anne Katherine BEVAN (née PETTWARD).

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at 8 Northgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Algernon B. BEVAN, J.P. [45] bank managing director born Bury St.Edmunds; his mother Anne [42] born Finborough; sister Frances A [14] and brother Bernard B [4]. All the children were born in Bury St.Edmunds

1911 census...Aged 17, a student, he was at Ickworth Lodge with his parents; brothers Edward [27] timber merchant and Bernard (scholar); sisters Frances Ann [24] and Katherine [18]. His father died in 1924.




Commissioned in October 1914, he was in France on 19th January 1915.
On 20th July the 2nd Suffolk took part in another assault on Longueval and Delville Wood, to no avail. Heavy casualties ensued. They lost 4 Officers killed, 2 wounded and 6 missing (5 of these, including Clement Bevan, later presumed killed.). A total (all ranks) of 115 were killed, 90 having no known grave.
