All were born in East Harling. 1901 census...Aged 11, he was at Garboldisham Road, East Harling with his parents; brothers Albert and Eric G [5]; sisters Doris [8] and twins Myrtle May and Olive Rose [2]. 1911 census...Aged 21, under gardener domestic, he was at Westley Bottom (just inside Horringer parish) with his parents; brothers Albert James (stockman), Eric George (under stockman) and Ralph Bernard [1] born Westley; sisters Myrtle May, Olive Rose, Kate Maud [9] and Mildred Gladys [6] both born Horringer and Ida Vivienne [3] born Westley. His mother was at Westley Bottom on the pension card. |
From his photo it appears he was definitely in the Suffolk Regiment at some time
On 10th they were at the Quéant-Drocourt Line, where enemy machine gun fire caused problems
