Leslie Robert Jacobs was born on 28th November 1920 in West Wickham (Linton Q4-1920 3B:810), baptised in Balsham on 6th February 1921, son of Robert Henry and Annie JACOBS (née PLUMB). Annie was the widow of Henry George MURRELL, killed in France on 27th July 1916 and married Robert Henry JACOBS in 1919

His siblings were Reginald, Leslie, Douglas and Joan (later Joan Whittaker)

In 1939 his widowed mother Annie [27/6/1889] was at 10 Council Houses, Shudy Camps Road, Horseheath with his brothers Douglas [21/7/1922] poultry farm worker) and Bernard [14/3/1924] farm labourer (one closed record,presumably his sister Joan). His father had died in 1929.

His half brother Reginald Murrell died in manoeuvres in Wilshire in the Grenadier Guards in 1940. see here




"Battalion at War" Michael Moore, has him dying of his wounds on 13th, when the battalion was almost surrounded in fighting in Adam Park, and suffering from sniper fire.
