RUSE, Bernard H

No.5933708, Corporal, Bernard Henry RUSE
Aged 29 (CWGC have 27)

1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment
Killed in Action on Friday, 13th February 1942

Believed to be:-
Bernard Henry Ruse was born in 1912 in Castle Camps (Linton Q3-1912 3B:837) son of Henry Chapman and Margaret Eva RUSE (née HUMPHREY).

He is apparently the Bernard H RUSE who married Dora BOWERS [1/2/1915] in Cambridge in Q4-1938. In 1939 she was living with her father Frederick BOWERS, a farm labourer, in Horseheath. In September 1948 she married William H.GOODWIN (Cambridge 4A:771).

It also appears that his parents Henry C RUSE [23/10/1883] (a farm labourer) and Margaret E [31/1/1998] were at Manor Farm Cottages, Horseheath with his brothers George [24/10/1909] a farm foreman and Walter [19/12/1914] invalided out of regular Army.

"Battalion at War" Michael Moore, has him killed in action on 13th, when the battalion was almost surrounded in fighting in Adam Park, and suffering from sniper fire.

He was originally recorded as missing, last seen in BUKIT TIMAH area. He was originally buried in SIME ROAD Camp but moved to Kranji War Cemetery on 23rd June 1946.
