William Scotcher was born in Horseheath (Linton Q1-1895 3B:524), baptised in Horseheath on 26th May 1895, son of Henry and Eliza SCOTCHER (née KIMMENCE).

1901 census...Aged 6, he was at "Limberhurst" Horseheath with his father Henry SCOTCHER [46] horsekeeper born Barnardiston; his mother Eliza [42] born Withersfield; sisters Lizzie [20] born Wihersfield and Mary [15] born Horseheath; brother Arthur [17] farm labourer born Shudy Camps.

1911 census...William has not been found in this census. His parents were in Withersfield, and later at Horseheath End, Linton. The pension card has them at Withersfield Siding, Linton.


He enlisted in Haverhill. From his gratuity this would seem to be about March 1916
Dying of his wounds and no service record available it is impossible to say where or when he was wounded, especially so since he was in the artillery. Terlincthun was used by several base hospitals in the Wimille/Boulogne area.
