Patrick Robson Dobbin was born in Ixworth on 4th May 1911 (2nd qtr 1911 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:923), son of John Robson and Emily Watson DOBBIN (née BOWEN). His father was for many years the doctor in Ixworth ( he was in Ixworth in 1906) living at Park House, Ixworth and in 1939 was at Crown Lane, Ixworth with Patrick's brother John P [10-8-1909] and sister Mary I [11-5-1913].

He married Georgina Jane Harman COCK [21-4-1915] of Honiton, Devon in 2nd qtr 1939. In the 1939 register, they were living with her parents at Oak Lodge, Honiton. Patrick was a solicitor. At the time of his death their address was "Perivale", King's Road, Honiton.

Patrick had part of his education at Rugby School (on 1925 register there)


Commissioned in the Devonshire Regiment, he underwent glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion of that Regiment. He was CO of "E" Company.
He took part in Operation Varsity, the crossing of the Rhine in March 1945.
Having taken Hammelkin on 24th March the battalion pushed out of the bridgehead. On 2nd April they were involved in heavy fighting near Lengerich having 12 killed and 4 wounded. That is where Patrick was initially buried, before concentration to Reichswald in 1947



Originally buried in Lengerich Cemetery, he was moved to Reichswald in April 1947
