George Frederick Christie Mauldon was born in Ballingdon (3rd qtr 1892 Sudbury 4a:712) son of Christie Edwin and Alice Emily MAULDON (née NICE). Ballingdon is a suburb of Sudbury, south of the river

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at The Bull Inn, Sudbury with his father Christie E MAULDON [50] hotel keeper/brewer born Coggeshall, his mother Alice E[47] born Ballingdon; sisters Minnie M[21] born Ballingdon, Anne M [12] and Kathleen [5] both born Sudbury; brothers Christie E [19] in family brewery, John C [17] brewer's clerk and Harry C [16] architect's pupil, all 3 born in Ballingdon and Richard C [10] born in Sudbury; cousin Kate W [29] born Ballingdon.

1911 census...Aged 18, he was at Wood Street Farm, Ixworth a farm pupil with his widower uncle, farmer John ORBELL [48] and his sisters Edith Orbell [46] and Evelyn ORBELL [45] all 3 born in Bulmer. John Orbell married George's father's sister Anna Maria MAULDON



He enlisted in Woodbridge.
On the 6th November the battalion attacked Sheria, many of the Officers becomimg casualties. Taking cover behind a ridge and re-organising, reserves were brought up. Then with the aid of machine gun company the assault was continued and the Turks driven off. The battalion was ordered to go no further. The brigade had taken many prisoners and an intact battery of guns. The Turks tried a counter attack to recover the guns, but this was defeated.
