Herbert Frank Coe was born in Ixworth (4th qtr 1897 Thingoe 4a:809) son of Elijah and Caroline COE (née WARREN).

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Chalk Terrace, Ixworth with his father Elijah COE [34], farm labourer; his mother Caroline [36]; brothers George [11] and Arthur W[8]; sisters Mabel D [5] and Nellie M [1]. All were born in Ixworth.

1911 census...The same complete family were still at Chalk Terrace, the men all labourers

On the pension card his mother was at Thetford Road, Ixworth.



His brother Arthur died in 1917, in the Suffolk Regiment see here


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
On 5th April 1918 , 218 Field Company, Royal Engineers were working on trenches in the Purple Line, between Le Quesnoy Farm and Essarts. They had 8 men killed.





Herbert Coe is buried in Bienvillers Military Cemetery, France 10:C:5
