He enlisted in Woodbridge.
On the 6th November the battalion attacked Sheria, many of the Officers becomimg casualties. Taking cover behind a ridge and re-organising, reserves were brought up. Then with the aid of machine gun company the assault was continued and the Turks driven off. The battalion was ordered to go no further. The brigade had taken many prisoners and an intact battery of guns. The Turks tried a counter attack to recover the guns, but this was defeated.
