He enlisted in Lowestoft.
War Diary The battalion was at St Jean les Ypres: At 5:30 am a gas attack was made by the enemy. Gas was sent over from 5:30 am to 6 am and was followed by a very heavy bombardment of our trenches in St JEAN. It continued through the day and night following. Attack failed D Coy and half of C Coy ordered to reinforce at 5:30 pm and (?) at 7:45 pm Casualties 2/Lt BF Collis wounded, 4 OR killed, 1 died of wounds, 1 died from gas poisoning, 40 wounded, 18 suffering from gas poisoning.
