Stephen Thompson was born in Lawshall (1st qtr 1898 Sudbury 4a:805) son of Stephen Hurrell and Mary Ann THOMPSON (née ROLFE)

1901 census...Aged 2, he was at Golden Lane, Lawshall with his father Stephen THOMPSON, [32] farm labourer born Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex; his mother Mary Ann [25] born Whepstead; brother Frederick [1] born Lawshall.

1911 census...Aged 12, he was still at Golden Lane with his parents; brothers Frederick, Leslie George [6] and Arthur James [2]; sisters Olive[7]and Ellen Ruth [4]. All the children born in Lawshall

On the pension card his mother was at Golden Lane, then later, Blacksmith's Cottage, Lawshall.



He enlisted in Sudbury.
Records have Stephen killed in Action, but the war diary has
9/10/1917 5:20 am Fired in support of attack on POLDERHOEK CHATEAU. Attack unsuccessful Casualties 1 OR wounded (at duty).
