No.M2/149394, Private, Richard Abraham SHARPE
Aged 37
Richard Abraham Sharpe was born in Lackford (Thingoe Q4-1882 4A:605), baptised at St Lawrence, Lackford on
25th February 1883, son of Daniel John and Jane SHARPE(née AVIS).
His father had married Susannah HALLS on 9th May 1872 in Risby. He married Jane AVIS in 1881 (Newmarket Q4). The problem here is what happened between
the census. Possibly this Susannah SHARPE was the one who died in Woodbridge in Q2-1875, she was the right age and there was an asylum there. There is one
other possibility, an entry for death of Isabella Phoebe in 1875 which is strange as she is still alive when Richard was in the Army. Has the wrong name
been given. In 1881 Isabella was with her aunt Mary in Finborough and his father was recorded as married but his wife was not with him. No sign yet of Lilian who may be entered as Sarah
1891 census...Aged 8, he was at Stone Cottages, Lackford with his father Daniel J SHARPE [53] farm labourer born Risby; his mother Jane [42] born :Little Welnetham; half-sisters Isabel P [18] and Lilian S [11] both born in Risby, (mother Susannah) and sisters Evelyn [5], Mabel [3] and Frances M [1] all three born in Lackford. 1901 census...Aged 18, a domestic groom, he was at Fitzjohns, Great Canfield, Essex boarding with the RYMAN family. His parents (mother now recorded as born in Sicklesmere) were at Meadow Cottages , Lackford with his sisters Mabel and Frances His father was run over and killed by a waggon drawn by a steam tractor in Lackford on 24th July 1903 1911 census...Aged 28, a chauffeur, Richard was visiting the NEWTON family (his sister Isabella) at 13 Gainsborough Road, Hackney Wick. |
Dying after the Armistice, he does not appear in "Soldiers Died", hence we do not know where he enlisted
