"NOWTON MEMORIALS"
To the eternal memory of the villagers of NOWTON who died in the service of their country
The Church of St. Peter, Nowton...www.suffolkchurches.co.uk They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Seven in the Great War of 1914-1918 and three in 1939-1945
The only memorials to these men are two glazed scrolls of those who served in the two World Wars with those killed in red at the top.
As usual with glazed frames, the images are poor
They are however
Great War:- AINLEY, K.E.D. - GILBERT, H.A.P. - OAKES, O - OAKES, R.C. and OSBORNE, M.S.
BRUCE, W.G.P. and LEDWARD, G.W. are not named on the scroll.
WW2:- OAKES, J.P. - RUSHBROOKE, W.T. and WELTON, R.A.
In addition there are wall plaques for some individuals
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
