BARKER, Ada Lily

Killed by Enemy Action on Tuesday 18th February 1941
Aged 22

Born on 29th October 1918, youngest daughter of Mr & Mrs George William and Sarah Elizabeth BARKER (née BEADLE) of Hall Farm Cottages, Stetchworth.
In the 1939 register Ada was a housemaid at Freemason Lodge, Bury Road, Newmarket (Capt.Cecil BOYD-ROCHFORD).
Ada died at Eaton House, High Street, Newmarket
Her sister ( which one is not stated) recorded that Lily was going to the tobacconists to get cigarettes "to send to Jim". As she was found on the pavement outside the tobacconist with the cigarettes in her bag, she must have been in the tobacconists (Galloway's). The death certificate gave "Hit by falling masonry" as cause of death. This sister had the un-enviable task of going with her father to the morgue at Stratford House to identify Ada (known usually as Lily). Her nearest sister Norah Jessie died later that year. Her other siblings were Gwendoline M (1908) m Edward George MACROW, Lilian Joan(1910) m.Alfred Victor MOULD, Clarice E (1912) and brother Alfred George (1915)

Ada Barker is buried Stetchworth Cemetery, opposite St Peter's Church
