PAKENHAM WAR MEMORIALS
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Inside the church of St Mary at Pakenham, on the East wall, the Great War memorial is a brass plaque on a marble base, 1200 cm high x 600 cm
wide. A Latin cross and a crown at the
top, followed by the inscription and 29 names (rank-surname-forename-regiment).
Made by A.R.Mowbray and Co. and installed by Hanchets, Builders of Bury St. Edmunds.
Unveiled by Colonel Parry Crooke C.M.G. on 4th April 1920.
The plaque honouring the fallen of 1939-1945 is a brass plate on a slightly larger marble base, 65 cm x 65 cm.
Unveiled on 6th November 1949 by Major General W. Reeve, dedicated by
the Vicar, Rev. C.G.G. Pearson.
The inscription reads:-
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
