George Edward Redit was born on 16th June 1920 (3rd qtr 1916 Bury St. Edmunds 4a:1892), son of Thomas Edward and Rosina REDIT (née PLACE)

in the 1939 register he was a lorry driver's mate on coal delivery, with his parents at 2 Long Brackland, Bury St. Edmunds (2 closed records could have been his sister Pauline d.2018 and brother Jack d.1978 ). His father's Army records show Thomas marrying Rosina FROUD. Rosina PLACE had firstly married Walter C FROUD in 1911 who was killed in France in 1917.

He married Violet Irene Elizabeth WATTS in 1940 (2nd qtr 1940 Bury St. Edmunds 4a:3895). They lived in Pakenham. She married Raymond Leslie MINTON in 1944.






He attested for the Royal Artillery in 1940. He was a gunner aboard the SS Gandsoe and died in Khartoum hospital as the result of knife wounds inflicted by a member of the crew of the SS Gausdal ( a Danish freighter).
