George William Sexton was born in 1893 in Wickhambrook (4th qtr 1893 Risbridge 4a:675), son of John and Emma SEXTON (née STEARN)

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at the Farm House Lodge, Wickhambrook with his father John Sexton [44] farm labourer born Pakenham; his mother (recorded as Mary Ann) [39] born West Wratting; sisters Elizabeth [13], born Cowlinge and Emma [11], Maria [9], Alice [6] and Ethel [1], all born in Wickhambrook.

1911 census...Aged 17, a farm labourer, he was at Cutters Buildings, Pakenham with his widowed mother; sister Ethel [11] born Wickhambrook, brother Arthur [9] born Great Barton and sister Eva [3] born Rushbrooke. His father had died in 1907.

On the pension card his mother was at The Street, Pakenham.



He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds. He died in 20 Casualty Clearing Station, Warlincourt-Halte, France.
With no Army service record available, and dying of wounds, there is no way of saying exactly where he was or when he was wounded. However the 23rd was the start of the battle of the Scarpe.
