Percy Edward Shelbourne was born in Ipswich on 16th October 1882(4th qtr 1882 Ipswich 4a:710), son of George and Selina SHELBOURNE (née THROSBY)

He was admitted to St.Matthews Voluntary Controlled Primary School, Ipswich in 1890.

1891 census...Aged 8, he was at 22 Bramford Lane, Ipswich with his widowed mother Selina SHELBOURNE [51] born Leicester; sisters Edith M[14], Ellen J [12] and Rose J [10] all born in Levington.

1901 census...Aged 18, a grocer's assistant, he was at 53 Felixstowe Road, Ipswich with his mother and sisters Ellen and Rose.

He married Florence TAYLOR [23=9=1880] of the Post Office, Pakenham on 21st November 1907.

1911 census...Aged 28, a grocer/draper, he was at the Post Office, The Street, Pakenham with his sister Rose and two boarders. His wife Florence [31] born Ixworth, was at 213 Nacton Road, Ipswich, staying with Percy's mother and sister Ellen Jane, with daughter Brenda [2] born Pakenham and Percy's niece May SHELBOURNE [6] born Hounslow.

Their children were Brenda Vera [21-11-1908], Edward Percy [17-11-1912] and Freda Grace [4-5-1914]. He was a committee member of the Pakenham Flower Show in 1911


from 15th October 1914 to 1916 he was engaged on transport duties at Ampton Hospital with the V.A.D., leaving 3rd November 1916 to enlist in the Army

On the pension card his wife was at the Post Office, Pakenham.



He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds. The day he was killed the battalion was at Passchendaele.
