Percy Mortlock born on 4th December 1893 in Shimpling (4th qtr 1893 Sudbury 4a:755) son of Hezekiah and Sarah Elizabeth MORTLOCK (née HAMMOND). His mother died in 1900 and his father married Martha HALE in 1920.

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at Bunham Hill, Shimpling with his widower father, Hezekiah MORTLOCK,[35]driver of threshing machine; sisters Mabel C [5] and Sarah E [1], all born in Shimpling; housekeeper cousin Cissie C BURCH [18] born Brixton, London

1911 census...Aged 18, afarm labourer, he was in Shimpling with his father; stepmother Martha [37] born Shimpling, sister Sarah E, half brother Redge Hezekiah [4] born Shimpling

He married Amelia Agnes JARMIN [21-5-1887] on 5th July 1915 in Hunsley, Leeds. Their address when he enlisted was 8 Sandon Mount, Hunslet Carr, Leeds. Their daughter Mabel Agnes was born in Hunslet on 21st October 1915

OVWGC have his widow at 28 Leasome Road, Hunslet Carr, Leeds, her family's address, the pension card has 8 Sandon Mount, Hunslet Carr, Leeds



He was mobilised in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves onm 22nd June 1917, posted to 2nd Reserve Battalion at Blandford. Posted to Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division .with whom he was serving when killed,in the BEF on 13th October 1917 via Folkestone - Boulogne
He was wounded on the left hand on 3rd January 1918, passed to 150th Field Ambulance and thence on 5th to 16 General Hospital, Le Treport, discharged to duty on 23rd March. Wounded again 5th June and returned to duty 17th June.
