HAZELL, George Aubrey

No.10503, Private, George Aubrey HAZELL
Aged 21

2nd Battalion, Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment
Died of his Wounds on 17th March 1915

George Aubrey Hazell was born in Clutton, Somerset (4th qtr 1893 Clutton 5c:514), son of George and Alice HAZELL(née HOLBROOK).
Baptised in Clutton, Somerset on 25th February 1894

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at The Hall, Hunmanby, Yorkshire with his mother Alice HAZELL (m)[30] born Somerset, Temple Mead and brother Harold A.[1] born Hunmanby. His father George HAZELL [43] born Colham Green, Hillingdon was butler at Didlington Hall, Norfolk

1911 census...Aged 17, a motor 'prentice', he was at 40 Queen's Terrace Mews, South Kensington with his parents and brother Harold.

The pension card has his mother at 65 Lillis Road, Fulham. From the census it appears his father was employed by the Cecil family and a butler he would have been moving round with that family, not necessarily with his own family.

He enlisted in London when resident in South Kensington.

Dying of wounds at a base hospital and his service record not found, there is no way of saying where he was, or when, he was wounded. The battalion was in the Ypres salient
