Albert George Nunn was born in Stowlangtoft (3rd qtr 1897 Stow 4a:842), son of Alfred and Emma NUNN(née SAVAGE).

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Kiln Farm Cottage, Stowlangtoft with his father Alfred NUNN [34] garden labourer born Norton; his mother Emma [29] and sister Hilda [5]. All except his mother born in Stowlangtoft.

1911 census...Aged 13, he was at The Street, Stowlangtoft with his parents. His mother had lost 1 of her 3 children.

The pension card has his mother at Stowlangtoft.


He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds.

The 11th Suffolk sometimes known as the Cambridgeshires due to the fact that in the early days of the war recruiting was exceeding billeting in Bury St. Edmunds so camps were set up in Cambridge to handle the men enlisting from the Fens. They were eventually formed into the 11th Suffolks.
On 28th April the battalion was on the left of 101 Brigade in an attack on Roeux Chemical Works. A day of attack and counter attack ensued and heavy casualties incurred. CWGC has 111 killed, 86 of them having no known grave.
