He attended Soham Grammar School from 1931 to 1933 His mother died in 1922 in Romford and his father married Gladys BUCKLE in 1929 In the 1939 register he was head assistant at a book stall, living at 1 Victoria Place, Wilburton with his father Henry [15-6-1880] a gents hairdresser; his step-mother Gladys [24-11-1889] and Amy B HARRIS [22-2-1874] widow, and Henrietta HARRIS [3-11-1908] married (Leslie's aunt and her mother in law).
