Eric Robert Pearson was born in Soham on 6th July 1917(Newmarket Q3-1917 3B:J'29), son of Arthur and Brenda PEARSON (née ASPLAND).
In the 1939 register he was a butcher's roundsman, living at 32 Mereside Cottages, Soham with his father Arthur J [10-9-1888] a jobbing gardener; his mother Brenda [20-12-1896]; sister Hilda [2-6-1920] food prep in factory (later MURFET); brother John [8-9-1921] butcher's roundsman. The 1st Cambridgeshires were fighting to the last minute around Adam Park when the surrender to the Japanese was announced. He was wounded and left on field at Bukit Timah on 15th February,and
was never seen again. The Cambridgeshire Regiment had 22 of the 1st Battalion and 11 of the 2nd Battalion killed that day, 7 of the 1st battalion have identified graves at Kranji, the rest are named on the Singapore Memorial. |
