Dennis William Murton was born in Tostock on 22d March 1912 ( 2nd qtr 1912 Stow 4a:1786), son of Charles David and Ellen MURTON (née HUNT).

In the 1939 register, a dairy hand at the Co-op, he was at Tostock Green with his father David [30-6-1874] hay cutter, mother Ellen [19--6-1872] and brother David L [7-7-1904] hay dresser.


Dennis died in a raid by Ju88s on R.A.F. Biggin Hill.

In the evening of Friday 30th August, nine Junkers Ju88 attacked R.A.F Biggin Hill airfield. This resulted in the deaths of 39 RAF and civilian personnel and 27 injured. Many wwere killed when a bomb hit an air raid shelter.
