Percy Samuel Rogers was born in 1907 in Ampton(Thingoe Q1-1908 4A:965), son of John and Jane Susannah E. ROGERS (née WELLS).

1911 census...Aged 3, he was in Ampton with his father John ROGERS [39] labourer in woods born Pakenham; his mother Jane Susannah E [36] born Whepstead; brothers Bertie John [13], Sidney Thomas [12] and sister Victoria Daisy [9] all born in Little Livermere, brothers Robert Victor [7] and Arthur William [5] born Ampton. There was another brother, George [14] born Fornham St Martin, who was with his grandparents, Henry and Eliza MUSK, at School Lane, Fornham St Martin.

In the 1939 register, at 9 Ampton were his father John [14-12-1866] a gamekeeper; his mother Jane [10-1-1876] and brother Robert V [10-8-1903] a gardener. There are no closed records.

His elder brother Bertie John was killed in the Battle of Arras in 1917 see here




He was killed on the day Singapore was surrendered to the Japanese. The 2 battalions of the Cambridgeshires (1st and 2nd), 2 Suffolk battalions (4th and 5th) and the 4th and 5th Battalions, Norfolk Regiment were fighting to the very end and reported to have been rather upset at the surrender.
