Peter James Ireland was born on 6th June 1922 (3rd qtr 1922 Chorlton 8c:1082) son of John Knowles and Rhoda IRELAND (née KNOTT)

Aged 3 months, on 4th August 1922, he and his parents and sister Joan Mary [8] left London on board the SS Macedonia bound for Shanghai. They had been living at 71 Parrs Wood Road, Didsbury, Lancs.
He was at one time a member of the 1st Shanghai Scouts. He arrived in England from Shanghai on "Hamburg" at Southampton on May 14th 1936, intended address 31 Eagle Lane, Snaresbrook, London E11




Commissioned in 1943, Peter died around the time the 5th Division were protecting the right flank of the Arnhem operations. Originally buried at Maeseyck, he was re-interred on 7th November 1945 at Mierlo.
