GORLE, Michael John Vaughan

Major, Michael John Vaughan GORLE
Aged 28

Royal Army Service Corps
formerly Royal Berkshire Regiment
Died of Illness on 10th August 1945

Michael John Vaughan Gorle was born in 1917 (1st qtr 1917 Havant 2b:560) son of Harry Vaughan [D.S.O.] and Edith Mary GORLE (née FRANCIS). Edith was Harry's 2nd wife.

On 6th June 1925, aged 7, with his mother [47] and sister Joan [9] he sailed from London on "Umvolosi" for Natal. The had been at the Rectory, Bridestone, Devon. Their final destination was to be Northern Rhodesia.
He arrived back in Southampton from Rhodesia on the "Winchester Castle" on 2nd August 1937, a 20 years old clerk bound for Oak Cottage, Beyton.
His parents were at Oak Cottage, Beyton in the 1939 register. In 1945 he was at Bernhard Baron Hospital, Papworth, where he died, so it is assumed he had contracted TB and was undergoing treatment. The absence of Army records showing his medical condition on discharge precludes applying to have him recognised by CWGC.

His half-brother Robert won the Victoria Cross in Belgium in 1918

Michael Gorle is buried in Beyton (All Saints) graveyard

He has not been recognised by CWGC
