1901 census...Aged 6, He was at the Keeper's Lodge, Santon, Norfolk with his father James CULLING [31] gamekeeper born Shotesham, Norfolk; his mother Thamer [39] born Hookham, Norfolk; sisters Ellen J [8] born Loddon, Thamer E [3] born Wilton and Harriet [1] born Wilton; uncle Alfred G Wade [39] bank clerk born Stone, Staffs and aunt Frances Wade [46] born Hookham. 1911 census...Aged 16 he was at 1 Surrey Street, Portsmouth a servant of the Gadd family. In Great Eversden were his parents and sisters Thamer, Florrie [10] born Santon, Emma [8] born Gt Glenham and Ada [5] born Gt Glenham. Sometime after 1911 his father had moved to Bradfield Hall estate. It was a fami;ly of gamekeepers, his father James and grandfsather James were all gamekeepers and all at some time worked on the Bradfield estate |
He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds The nNewspaper report says he was wounded on 19th October. The 9th Suffolks were in trenches St.Jean, Ypres. Shellfire killed one and wounded 3
