1901 census...Aged 6, he was at 31 Chalk Lane,Bury St.Edmunds with his father Joseph RAYSON [39] domestic gardener born Lawshall; his mother Emma []37]born Stanstead; sisters Florence [13] born Lawshall, Edith M [9] born Nowton and Ellen N [3] born Bury St.Edmunds; brothers William [11] born Lawshall and Ernest A [9 months] born Bury St.Edmunds. 1911 census...Aged 16, grocer's assistant, he was at 40 Risbygate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, brothers William (groom/gardener) and Ernest [11];sisters Nellie [13] and Aggie [5]. |

He enlisted in Chelsea Town Hall on 1st July 1915, giving his age as 20, a footman, residing at 18 Ennismore Gardens, South Kensington.5 feet 8.25 inches tall,
chest 31 to 35 inches,weighing 122 lbs, next of kin, mother, Emma Rayson of 40 Risbygate Street, Bury St.Edmunds. Army form 5080 is virtually destroyed, but
it appears that both parents, both brother and 4? sisters were still living in 1919. Details of his postings etc are missing. War Diary:- 28th..At 12 pm the enemy counter attacked but we beat him off with great loss to him and held our line and consolidated. They were at Delville Wood to assist the 99th Brigade who had just pushed the Germans out of Delville Wood.
