Willie BABBAGE was born on 7th May 1885 in White Hill, Helston Cornwall ( 2nd qtr Helston 5c:176) son of William and Ellen BABBAGE (née RALPH)

1891 census...Aged 5, he was at Upper Street, Stratford St mary, Suffolk with his father William [27] huntsman born Devon; his mother Ellen [29] born Helston, Cornwall; brother James [2] born Helston.

1901 census...Aged 15, a ginger beer man, he was at 4 St Mary's Place, Bridewell Lane, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents (father now a non domestic coachman); brohers James[12] and John [6] born Woolwich.

1911 census...Aged 25, a brewers assistant, he was still at 4 St.Mary's Place, Bridewell Lane with his parents, brother James, a tobacco manufacturer; John, a grocer's assistent; Fred [5] and sister Ellen [9], the two youngest born in Bury St Edmunds.

He married Emily Louisa NUNN [7-2-1886] in 1911 in Bury St.Edmunds. Their daughter Doris Lilian Mary was born on 11th March 1915 in Bury St Edmunds

The pension card has his widow at 44 Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds. She married George A.SMYTH in Bury in 1919


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
Dying of his wounds as a Base Hospital, in the absence of his Army service records, it is impossibl to say where or when he was wounded. In early April the battalion was in the Arras area.
