Born in 1894 (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:747) son of Henry and Mary BAILEY (née EMMERSON)

1901 census...Aged 6, he was at 7 Foundary Cottages, Bury St.Edmunds, with his father Herny BAILEY [48] foundary labourer born Saxham; his mother Mary [44] born Saxham; sisters Eva [19] born Risby and Beatrice [10] born Bury St.Edmunds; brothers James [17] foundary labourer, Benjamin [14] errand boy, both born Thorpe Morieux, Joseph [9] Arthur [8]and George [3] all born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 16,a fetler in iron works, he was at 1 Klondyke Cottages, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, father now iron plainer; brothers Joseph farm lad, George and Albert [9] born Bury St.Edmunds.

The pension card has his parents at 1 Klondyke Cottages, Bury St.Edmunds. CWGC have his mother as Mrs.Mary Bailey at 66 Melford Road, Sudbury.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
Without his Army service records, and with him dying of his wounds, it is impossible to say where and when he was wounded. The cemetery was used at the time by Field Ambulances of 48th South Midland Division
