He was imprisoned (No. 12399) at Stalag 20-A , Torun, Poland. Stalag XX-A was a German World War II prisoner of war camp located in Toruń in German-occupied Poland. It was not a single camp and contained as many as 20,000 men at its peak. The main camp was located in seven forts of the 19th-century Toruń Fortress, located in the southern part of the city. Starting January 19th 1945 the prisoners were force marched south west, away from the Soviet advance. It was during this march that is seems James died. The camp they were taken from was liberated by the Russians on 1st February 1945 |
