Born in 1891 (2nd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:800) son of Harry and Eliza BASS (née EMMERSON) Baptised in St James, Bury St.Edmunds on 13th September 1891,resident at 2 Westview Cottages.

1891 census...Aged 1 month, he was at 2 West Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Harry BASS [44] tinman; his mother Eliza [40] born Fornham All Saints; sister Annie [11]; brothers ArthurT [18] gardener, Herbert [15] apprentice tinman, Harry [12], Ambrose E [9], Bertie G [6] and Percy T [2]. All except his mother were born in Bury St.Edmunds

1901 census...Aged 10, "Frank" was at 94 Queens Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, brother Harry, stonemason's laburer, Ambrose, iron foundary labour, Bertie, errand boy, Percy errand boy and sister May [7].

1911 census...Aged 20 "Frank", a labourer, was still at 94 Queens Road with his parents, brother Harry, labourer, and sister May.

He married Emma Sarah GARRISH [2-5-1886] in 1915. Their daughter Frances Alexandra was born at 5 The Broadway, Eastgate, Bury St.Edmunds on 25th October 1917, later of 1 Reeds Buildings, Northate Street.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. Dying of his wounds in No.6 Base Hospital, Etaples and no Army service record found, it is impossible to say where and when he was wounded. There were at one time 14 hospitals in Etaples capable of dealing with 22,000 patients.
