Born on 1st March 1893 (2nd qtr Colchester 4a:611) son of Frederick William and Rose Whitworth BAYLIS (née MANN).Baptised in St James, Colchester on 30th April 1893

1901 census...none of the family have been found in this census

1911 census...Aged 18, assisting in the busines, he was at 83 Duke's Street, Chelmsford with his father Frederick BAYLIS [42] fish monger born Banbury,Oxford; his mother Rose [45] born Hartlepool; brothers Horace [15] born Colchester, Leslie [8] born Coggshall and Victor [5] borne East Colne

The family appears to have moved to Bury St.Edmnds since they were at the Everards Hotel in 1917 according to newspaper reports..


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. Dying of wounds in 15th General Hospital, Alexandria, and no Army service record found, it is impossible to say where or when he was wounded.
