Born in Offord in 1891 (2nd qtr Plomesgate 4a:967)son of George and Hettie (Harriett) BUGG (née MOORE)

1901 census...Aged 10, he was at 1 Southgate Street, Bury St Edmunds with his father George BUGG [48] a publican, born Wivenhoe; his mother Harriett [39] born Fornham St Martin; sisters Hettie [19],Sarah [16], Ellen [13] and Beatrice [6]; brother Robert Henry[4] All the children recorded as born in Bury St.Edmunds

1911 census...Aged 20, farm labourer, he was at 12 Longbrackland, Bury St Edmunds with his parents(father a hawker and mother shopkeeper); sister Sarah a shopkeeper; brothers Robert [14] and Thomas Henry [7]; cousins Robert [9] and Sarah [8] MOORE, both born in Stansted. Two siblings had died,one was Martha [1900-1909]

He married Phoebe WILLIAMS [3-3-1887] in 1917 in Hammersmith. Lived at Britannia Yard, 68 Bromley Road, N Kensington N10, sometime of Brown's Yard, Beaconsfield Road, Acton Green, London.


He enlisted in Mill Hill, London, when resident in Enfield. "Soldiers Died" has him born in Offord (sic)
He died at No 29 Casualty Clearing Station, Gezaincourt from his wounds. Without his service record t is not ossible to say where and when he was wounded, but the battalion had been in action at Beugnatre just north of Bapaume until 1st September when they moved into Reserve.
