Born on 30th October 1913, 4th qtr 1913 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1790, son of John and Ruth CLARKE (née BOWYER) of 51 St Andrews Street South, Bury St.Edmunds. His PoW card makes him one year younger

A labourer in civilian life according to the PoW card, whereas in fact he was a butcher's shop manager in 1939, living with his widowed mother.
He was captured at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese on 15th February 1942
