Born in 1898 (2nd qtr Bury St.edmunds 4a:817)son of William Joseph and Jane COOK (née CATTON)

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at 2 Ipswich Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Joseph W. COOK [52] picture framer born Islington; his mother Jane [42] ; brothers William [28] furniture warehouseman, born Birmingham, Harry [16] icture framer born Ipswich, George [5] and Robert [5 months]; sisters Celia [15], Melvina [13], Margaret [10] and Eliza [8]. All except his fsther, William and Harry, were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

His father died in 1907.
1911 census...Aged 13, he was at 1 Cornhill, Bury St.Edmunds with his widowed mother, sister Melvina(shop manager) and Norah (Eliza Nora) (draper's assistant); brothers George (picture framer) and Victor [8]; cousin Edith CATTON [15] born Barningham.

His mother was later at 9 Bedford Street, Ipswich.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. The 15th Battalion were on garrison duties in Herrines when Edward contracted influenza and pneumonia. He died in No.51 Casualty Clearing Station in Tournai, Belgium.
