Born in Steeple Bumpstead on 7th April 1893 (2nd qtr Risbridge 4a:718) son of Clear and Emily COOPER (née WOODHAM)
His birth registration has him as Morris Joseph COOPER. Both parents in workhouse at Kedington in 1891, married in 1892.

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at Coltsfoot Green, Wickhambrook with his uncle John WEBB [68] farm labourer born in Wickhambrook; his aunt Agnes WEBB [49] born Rede, uncle Harry COOPER [39] farm labourer born Stansfield; his father Clear COOPER [34] farm labourer born Stansfield (recorded as single)

1911 census...Aged 19, a private in 1st Bedfordshires, he was at Aldershot. His parents have not been found.

The pension card has his father at 7 Cemetery Road, Bury St.Edmunds


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 2nd February 1910.
War Diary :-
27 Oct 1914 - between Zandvoorde Chateau and Menin Road The Battalion assembled after the relief & bivouaced at VELDHOEK & at about 9.30 A.M. moved back to bivouac in a wood at HOOGE. At 7 p.m. the Battalion moved up again to take up the left flank of a Brigade line from ZANDEVOORDE [sic] Chateau to 9 Kilo stone on MENIN-YPRES Road. The Battalion relieved the Black Watch & held the line A Company on the right - B Company - C Company - D Company in reserve. A certain amount of digging in was done as the line allotted to the Battalion did not allow sufficient room for the men.


The battalion lost 3 men that day, all with no known grave.
