DEFEW, Reginald Edmund

No.5832558, Lance Sergeant, Reginald Edmund DEFEW
Aged 27

1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment
Killed in Action on Sunday, 15th February 1942

Born on 27th February 1914 (1st qtr 1914 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1789), son of William and Jane(née FINBOW)

1911 census...His parents were at 6 St.Edmunds Place, Bury St.Edmunds, father []26] a butcher born Attleborough, mother [26] born Helmingham. Their 1st child was Cyril, born qtr 4 of 1911

He married Muriel E Cross in Bury St.Edmunds in 1938 In the 1939 register he was branch manager of Star Supply Company in Felixstowe, living at 28 Highfield Road, Felixstowe with his wife Muriel [31-8-1910]. His parents were at 10 Maynewater Square, Bury St.Edmunds, father a brewery cellarman.

His move to Felixstowe perhaps is why he was missed off the roll of honour but his Bury connections are every bit as strong as many on that roll.

He was killed in the Bukit Timah area of Singapore on the day of the surrender to the Japanese, seemingly he died after the surrender as he is recorded as a prisoner of war.
