Born Frederick Bareham BUGG in Bury St.Edmunds in 1896 ( 2nd qtr 4a:808 ) son of Elizabeth Ann BUGG. His mother married Joseph FAKES in Bury St Edmunds in 1898

1901 census...Aged 4, Federick FAKES was at 44 Chalk Lane, Bury St.Edmunds with his step-father Joseph FAKES [26] bricklayer; his mother Elizabeth Ann[28] born Exning; sister Ethel [1] and brother William [6 months]. All the childen were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1911 census...Aged 14 he was at 11 Prospect Row, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; brothers Joseph William, Bertie Victor [8],Thomas Harry [5] and Frank Edward [3]; sister Ethel May.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. No war diary has been found.The 308th Siege Battery joined the 66 Heavy Artillery Group mid October 1917. An example of one type of gun they would have used seen here, a gun of the Australian 9.2 inch battery in action at Voormezeele, Belgium in September 1917 E00694






Frederick Fakes is buried in Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Ypres 3:H:21
