Born on 8th November 1888 in Bury St.Edmunds (4th qtr 4a:693) son of Joseph Arthur and Sarah Anne FLOYD (née JONES)

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at 5 Hospital Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Joseph A FLOYD [34] chemist, born Soham; his mother Sarah A [31] born London; sisters Sarah HR []13] born Whitstable, Kent, Emily M W[12] born Alcester, Warwick, Etheldreda A [10] born Alcester, Margaret V [8] born Straford on Avon, Teresa W M [6] , Barbara J [5] , Alma E [1] and Hilda M [under 6 months]. The youngest 5 children all born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at 68 Whiting Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his mother; sisters Margaret V, Teresa WM, Barbara J, Alma E, Cicely A [9], Hilda M [7], Monica V [4], Agnes P [3], Edna M [1] and Kathleen J [under 6 months]; brothers Cyril [8] and Lawrence H [5]. All the new siblings were born in Bury St.Edmunds. His father, a commercial traveller /chemist was at an hotel in Deansgate, Manchester.

1911 census...Aged 22 a chemist's assistant, he was boarding at 3 Swan Lane, Norwich with the Edward CORDER (pharmaceutical chemist) and his family. At 68 Whiting Street, Bury St.Edmunds were his parents; sisters Teresa Mildred Mabel, Agnes Philippa, Olive Mary, Edna Mary, Kathleen Theckla, Doris Marcella [8] and Florence Pauline [5]; brothers Cyril( apprentice grocer) and Lawrence Hugh. His mother had borne 22 children but 4 had died.

He married Edith Bessie TRAVIS of 14 Hatters Street, Bury St.Edmunds on 19th August 1916 at St Edmunds Chapel, Westgate, Bury St.Edmunds. At the time he was Private in 3rd Suffolks (chemist), stationed in Felixstowe.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds in the Suffolk Regiment No.29264 on 7th December 1915, givng his age as 27 years 1 month, a chemist, of 68 Whiitng Street, Bury St.Edmunds. He was 5 feet 5.5 inches tall, chest 34.5 to 38 inches, weighing 146 lbs, Church of England, next of kin, father Joseph Arthur FLOYD, later changed to wife Edith Bessie.
Placed on Reserve, he was mobilised in 3rd Suffolks on 18th May 1916, appointed unpaid L/Cpl on 25th July and at own request reverted to Private on 26th Nov.1916 and transferred to RAMC on 27th Nov.1916, now recorded as Roman Catholic and eligible dispenser. With 49th General Hospital he embarked on HT "Caesarea" at Southampton on 24th April 1917 to Le Havre, transferring from there to Marseilles where he embarked on HT "Minnetonka", disembarking in Salonika on 22nd May 1917. Appointed Acting Sereant 20th Oct.1917 as relief, reverting to Private on arrival of Sgt Hobson. on 7th Dec.1917. Promoted Sergeant on 5th July 1918 to complete establishment, annotated not to be transferred to another Corps without reference to War Office.
Admitted to 50th General Hospital 1st January 1919 (NYD (not yet diagnosed) 'Influenza') and died there on 5th January , cause bronch-pneumonia.
