Frank Scarfe Jubilee FROST was born on 16th April 1887 (qtr 2 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:731) son of John and Anna FROST (née SCARFE)

1891 census...Aged 3, he was at 4 Nowton Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father John FROST [44] bricklayer born Bradfield St.George; his mother Anna [44] born Rushbrooke; brothers William J [18] brewer's labourer and George J [15] baker; sisters Mary [8] and Violet M [1]. All the children were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 13, a domestic gardener, he was still at 4 Nowton Road with his parents.

1911 census...Aged 23 he was a private in the 2nd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment in India. his parents were still at 4 Nowton Road. His mother had borne 8 children but 4 had died.

He was survived by his parents, brother William and George and sister Mary (Mrs Bridges)


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 17th February 1909, giving his age as 21 years and 10 months, from Bury St.Edmunds, a general labourer. He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighed 134 lbs, chest 32.5 to 35 inches, dark blue eyes, brown hair, Church of England.
The 2nd Norfolks were at Belgaum in India from 1911, and then on 6th November 1914 they were sent to Mesopotamia with the Indian Expeditionary Force.
He died at Ctesiphon, Mesopotamia in action with "D" Coy.
Ctesiphon was the last Persian capital in Iraq, dominated by a huge arch in what is left of the city wall, which was once a gateway to the city. November 22nd 1915 the Turkish front line was SE of the city and their 2nd line to the north of the place. The British took the first line, but with heavy casualties, then had to stop due to the strength of the gunfire directed at them. 50 per cent of the Norfolks became casualties, with a total of all ranks of 267, 31 of them killed.
