Born in 1884 (1st qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:669) son of Alfred and (née BREAM)

1891 census...Aged 8 he was at 16 Victoria Place, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Alfred GILL [29] bricklayer; his mother Kate [28] born London; sisters Kate [5], Ethel Ada [4] and Hetty Elizabeth [1]. All except his mother were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 18, a bricklayer, he was boarding at 19 Fulbourn Road, Walthamstow with the family of John PENROSE (foreman builder/scffolder). At 52 Mill Lane, Bury St.Edmunds were his widower father and sisters Kate, Ethel and Hetty. His mother had died in 1900.

1911 census...Aged 27, a Private in the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, he was in India. His father and sister Ada were at 55 Mill Lane. Bury St.Edmunds


He enlisted in 1903. He died at Ladywell Road Military Hospital, Bermondsey. According to newspaper reports, he died from the results of gas poisoning
